Optical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of defective eye coordination, binocular vision, and functional amblyopia by non-medical and non-surgical methods, e.g., glasses, prisms, exercises.

Orthoptist

A health care professional who specialises in the assessment of strabismus and eye movement disorders. Orthoptists undertake a three year degree course and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Optometrist

Eyecare professional, conducts refractive examinations, fits contact lenses and assesses overall eye health. Doctor of optometry (OD) specializing in vision problems, treating vision conditions with spectacles, contact lenses, low vision aids and vision therapy, and prescribing medications for certain eye diseases.
